Covas

The village of Covas, encompasses a set of natural and tourist resources, whose attractiveness is undeniable and can be visited. Covas is a parish in Vila Nova de Cerveira and an integral part of the Alto Minho Cycling and Walking Centres. It is located in a valley nestled between Serra D'Arga and Serra de Covas, and is crossed by the river Coura with a strong tradition in water sports and adventure. It is a typical Minho village. A visit to the village of Covas reveals a very rich and diverse architectural and religious heritage, with emphasis on Couço do Monte Furado, a mining complex from Roman times; Castro de Pagade dating back to the Iron Age; Azenha de Pagade with its beautiful waterfall, the parish church Divino Salvador Século XVIII and several chapels. The most prominent architectural piece in the village is Casa do Carboal, an imposing building from the late 17th century, a fine example of "plain architecture" among others.
